Ancient Greece.

On Friday morning the children from Rooms 18, 19 and 20 experienced what life was like for children in Ancient Greece.
The children were split into 3 groups -
Boys- who went to school.
Girls - who had to learn how to cook, sew and look after a house.
Slaves- boys and girls doing jobs for everyone.
Slaves cleaning

Boys at school...not a fun way to learn!

Girls happily learning how to sew

Slaves washing feet!!!!

Interesting comments came for the experience....not all positive about how the Greek children lived. Always good to find out about others.  Video comments from the children coming soon.

Reading

Week one for reading we read
The Tunnel by Anthony Browne.
It is a story about a brother and sister who argue all the time. Their mother sends them out to play together and they discover a tunnel. The brother crawls through the tunnel ignoring his sister’s protests, and ends up in a magical forest. When her brother does not return, Rose follows him into the tunnel and finds him turned to stone.
This shows all the connections in the book.
Everytime we read the book and looked at the pictures we found more interesting things-
  • stereotyping
  • how the pictures showed feelings
  • not knowing the children's names till the very end
  • brother and sister relationships
  • making decisions......
What can you see in the picture?

Chairs

Room 19 were very busy this week. They had a challenge to sand down 8 old chairs and then paint them in bright colours. The results are fabulous...check out our chairs     for  around the jellybean table.

Cheese reply

Today we got a letter from the cheese company. They are very sorry about the cheese and think there was possibly a hole in the bag. The company has been very nice and have sent us a voucher to spend....mmmm what will I buy ? ( it doesn't have to be cheese)

Hope you are all having a great holiday.

YUCK :(

Thursday was bread making day, the difference this time was we were able to add flavours to our bread, all was good until we opened the packet of grated cheese...... it stunk and there were big lumps of mold ( we are hoping its just mold).
We have written to the company about the cheese, but no reply yet.
